LPC to the rescue!

Arjo Wiggins Fine Papers, an Aberdeen based paper mill, when faced with a safety problem in the operation of their drying machines, called in the safety experts - LPC.
They needed to ensure that machine operators were completely safe when accessing the dryers, so LPC experts,in conjunction with Arjo Wiggins engineers and using market-leading technology from Sick, implemented a solution.
A horizontal light curtain was installed inside the machine hood at a level that would detect the operator's legs. This was linked to ultra heavy-duty, solenoid interlocks on the doors so that, if the presence of an operator was detected, the doors could not lock and, unless all doors were locked, and the machine could not be started. The use of a speed-monitoring relay meant that doors could only be unlocked when a zero speed was reached. However, in order to maximize production, an enabling switch could be activated to run the machine at a safe speed of 15m/minute, allowing the operator safe access to the drier.

Kubler Encoders

Cost-effective, small diameter encoders

Thanks to the use of high integrated opto-ASICs, the new 24mm diameter low cost miniature industrial encoders from Kubler are now available.
The encoders are available in both hollow shaft and shaft versions, the hollow shaft version having no requirement for a coupling device so the potential for expensive mechanical failure is reduced and the assembly time/ cost are minimised. Protected to IP64 these encoders are housed in a chrome plated casing resistant to oil and acids. The robust design and housing of these encoders ensures that they will outlast plastic equivalents in most applications. Contact us today for information.
