Climate Change Levy & Improving Energy Efficiency

Following the recommendations made by Lord Marshall in his report on 'Economic Instruments and the Business Use of Energy' the chancellor of the exchequer conveyed in his budget statement on 9th March 1999 that the government will introduce a climate levy on the business use of energy from April 2001.

What does the Climate Change Levy (CCL) mean to industry
· Government will raise £1billion in 2001/2002 through taxation
· from 1st April 2001 electricity costs will rise by 10~15%
· Electricity cost supplement of 0.43p/KW introduced
· Gas and Coal cost supplement of 0.15p/KW introduced
· Companies must reduce energy usage or suffer reduced profits
· Industry must plan to offset the increased cost

How Can LPC Assist you in relation to the CCL

Our team of experienced engineers can
- assist you in reducing energy usage and thus reducing costs
- highlight energy saving opportunities
- identify methods of increasing your production efficiency
- advise on the selection of the most efficient motors for applications
- identify applications where variable speed drives could be utilised
- introduce 'Optomisers' ensuring motors run at optimum energy efficiency
